Gallery opening at Petersham Art Center Sept 10, 4-6 pm

Twin Dairy Farm in Petersham is a forerunner of one of the farms in the exhibit, Sweetwater Farm.

The photo exhibit is on the move! It’s now on display at the Petersham Art Center, one of the loveliest little venues for art and craft in our area. It will be on view there through September.

Join us on Sunday, Sept 10 between 4 and 6 pm for a gallery opening and reception. Cathy will be on hand to sign copies of A Quabbin Farm Album and there will also be a great display of historical milk bottles from nearby towns–sure to provoke memories for people who’ve lived here for a while and questions from those who haven’t (what happened to all those little dairies?).

The photo exhibit is supported in part by grants from the Cultural Councils of Orange, Petersham, and Wendell, local agencies which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. Generous donors to the GOALFM GoFundMe campaign also contributed.

How local food helps build a better world

The theme of this year’s summer library reading series is “Build a Better World,” and A Quabbin Farm Album will be part of the discussion this Tuesday evening at 7 pm at the Athol Public Library.

Robin Shtulman, one of the founders of Quabbin Harvest Co-op in Orange, will be joining me to talk about where local food and farming fit into the goal of building a better world. We’ll have copies of the book for sale too.

It’s a free event, but you do need to register in advance. Call the library at 978-249-9515 to sign up!

A successful book launch on June 24

It was great to see so many friends and neighbors at last Saturday’s book launch and gallery show for A Quabbin Farm Album! Some pics from the event are below.

Books are here!

We’re excited that the first shipment of books has arrived at Haley’s, just in time for ourĀ book launch and celebration of local farms and farmers at Quabbin Harvest this Saturday afternoon (June 24, 2017, 1-4 pm).

You’ll be able to buy books at the event, and they’ll also be for sale at the coop in future, and at other area stores. Or you can buy them online through this site – just click the “Add to cart” button in the sidebar.

A portion of the proceeds from each sale, especially those made at the coop or online through this website, will help to support the work that Quabbin Harvest is doing to strengthen local food production and marketing.

Coming soon!

A Quabbin Farm Album, a new book by Cathy Stanton featuring photographs by Oliver Scott Snure, will be released in June 2017 by Haley’s of Athol. This website is still under construction, but check back soon for more about the book, the farms and farmers, and the story of agriculture in the Quabbin region of Massachusetts.

In the meantime, you can get a sneak preview of some of the materials in the book by visiting the 2015 “Farm Values: Civic Agriculture at the Crossroads” website.

You can also see Oliver’s new portraits of area farmers in the gallery at the Athol Public Library through May 31.

And if you’re in the area, be sure to join us for theĀ book launch and gallery opening celebration at Quabbin Harvest Co-op in Orange on the afternoon of Saturday, June 24!
